Fall sewing with a plan

I've decided to try to make up a sewing plan for the fall. This way, I can get a fairly coordinated wardrobe for Kate and be a little more efficient at utilizing my fabrics. Most of these patterns are from Ottobre issues 03/2010 and 04/2010 or they are Farbenmix patterns that I have or from the Farbenmix book "Sewing Clothes Kids Love." I'll keep everyone posted on the progress (or lack thereof!). August and September will likely not be very productive because I have interviews at Iowa and Penn and I'm taking the real written perio boards and doing a teaching workshop and need to work on turning in my portfolio to graduate (hmm...doesn't sound like so much time to sew, but I'm sure I'll find it! It really helps me relax and let go of the stress of everything mentioned above).  Remember I can only work on this after about 8:30pm each night!!

So far, it has cost me actually calculated $65 to gather probably about 90% of the materials, notions, etc. Not bad, considering how much this would cost to purchase at the store!!

I recently discovered a fabulous magazine full of Finnish children's patterns called Ottobre. By coincidence, one of my friends and co-residents from school, Romina, gave me a subscription as a gift this Spring! I was so excited! Here are my first attempts at clothing from their patterns modeled by Kate's cousins Jillian and Linkin: This dress was actually a pattern I drafted myself, but has matching shorts from an Ottobre pattern

I think the peak of the garden is in June...July is just too hot for anything to do very well...I'll get the July garden photos tomorrow.

I pulled those darn potatoes that were taking over the front half of the garden and guess what?! Potatoes!
I've been having baked potates for lunch recently:)

The onions looked a little frail as well, so I dug them up too...onions!

See those tomatoes over the top of the trellis! I had enough tomatoes to can them and to make pasta sauce!

On the left is blueberry jam I made from blueberries from a nearby pick-your-own farm:)

Overdue update...

How is it that when I have the most free time, I'm the busiest? We've been doing a lot of swimming and Kate can now swim underwater totally alone without a floaty about 5 feet! She is really a little fish in the water and loves it.

Alex and my Mom were here for a week at the beginning of June. We love having them visit! Kate loves playing with Annie and Alex both. Alex mowed our lawn because Loren was out of town. He was so tired! It was a lot of work. We were lucky there were here then, because it has been SO hot since they left. Upper 90s every day.

My garden is hanging in there, but everything is pretty wilted after the long hot days. I had enough tomatoes to can a batch! I also harvested the potatoes that were taking over the garden.

This is Irene, our neighbor that Kate adores. She is going to be in 4th grade and Kate thinks she is absolutely the neatest person on earth. She is wearing a skirt I made her out of an old t-shirt.
